Shillong: The KSU has expressed disappointment over lackadaisical attitude of the state government in ensuring development in the rural areas especially those villages located near the border areas.
The members of the education cell of the KSU and the KSU’s Dawki Circle, during a recent visit to Twah-U-Sdiah village in Jaintia Hills bordering Bangladesh, found that this village has been neglected by the government in several aspects from road connectivity to development of the livelihood of the residents.
“The road condition is very bad and it takes almost 45 minutes to reach this village from Amsohtai village”, KSU Education secretary Donald V. Thabah said.
According to Thabah, the local representatives would come to this place only before election to make promises. “Soon after the election the MLA disappears,” he added.
This village, which has 100 households, has only two schools, a government lower primary and upper primary run by the Dorbar Shnong.
“Even though, there are around 100 students in the lower primary, yet there are only two rooms and only one teacher”, the KSU education secretary said.
Referring to the health sector, the KSU leader said the patients had to be taken to Pdengshakap village as there is no health centre in this village. The KSU has asked the War-Jaintia MLA to take up steps to bring about development in this area especially in terms of road connectivity and health centre.
