SHILLONG: Despite the High Court order, the State Government is yet to allot a permanent tourist taxi stand for the Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (MTTA).
The Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court in April had directed the State Government to find an alternative parking stand for the MTTA.
In the judgement, Justice T Vaiphei had said that the State government shall make an endeavour to find an alternative permanent stand for the MTTA.
The order came after the MTTA had moved the court following the failure of the State Government to allocate a permanent parking lot to the MTTA since the time they were evacuated from the Shillong Municipal Board Parking Lot near State Bank of India (Main branch) in 2010.
The MTTA has now decided to file an appeal before the Court for a final hearing on the matter.
Informing this on Thursday, the MTTA general secretary Diganta Nath said, “We will file the appeal on July 30”.
The State Government earlier had mulled to give the taxi stand opposite the old Assembly to the MTTA, but the idea was opposed by the owners of petrol-run vehicles who are operating from that stand.
“When we went there for demarcation, the operators objected to the move,” he added.
In reply to the court order, the MUDA and SMB had stated that the two parking lots at Polo and Anjalee parking lot were allotted for tourist taxi stands.
