SHILLONG: The State police arrested two persons, suspected to be involved in arms supply to militants, here on Friday.

The duo have been identified as Adbil Ch Marak and Maybin Ch Marak of Tura and Jenjal in West Garo Hills district respectively.

According to police, the duo was sent by GNLA Southern commander Mikjim Sangma to buy weapons from Shillong.

A sum of Rs 4 lakh was seized from their possession, which police claimed, was meant for an arms consignment.

A city court on Saturday remanded the duo to 10-day police custody.

The police said more arrests in this connection were likely to be made in the next few days.

The Centre had declared the GNLA a terror outfit in this January for their involvement in kidnapping, extortion and killing of both civilians and security personnel in the three Garo Hills districts.
