FCI distributes rice in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has distributed free rice valued around 310 crore to Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana (PMGKAY).
“The Food Corporation of India has taken a major initiative under the leadership of DV Prasad, IAS, CMD, to execute the speedy movement of food grains and its distribution to the beneficiaries under PMGKAY scheme despite prevailing pandemic,” a statement said on Friday.
“The PMGKAY covers 21.46 lakh beneficiaries in Meghalaya, 6.68 lakh in Mizoram and 24.83 lakh in Tripura, totalling to 52.97 lakh beneficiaries under FCI, NEF region. The total quantity of rice allocated for the month of April 2020 and May 2020 has already been lifted by the governments of Meghalaya (21,455 metric tonnes), Tripura (24,828 metric tonnes) and Mizoram (6,682 metric tonnes) from different FCI depots located in the respective states and only 17 per cent of the total allotted quantity under the scheme is yet to be lifted. A quantity of 66,092 metric tonnes rice has been lifted till date, valuing about Rs 258 crore. The total rice allotted to the respective states under PMGKAY is 79,448 metric tonnes amounting to Rs 310 crore,” the statement added.
