SHILLONG: A team of people from different walks of life – comprising Dinesh Bhatia from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Animesh Mishra from NEIGHRIMS, HirakRanjan Das from Royal Global University, Guwahati, Kalyan Kumar Das from Assam Engineering College and Dipak Kalita, businessman – have developed a COVID De-Incubator chamber to disinfect clothes and other daily articles, a report said.
The chamber works under the concept of high temperature heating and humidity. Temperature is maintained between 75 and 80 degree Celsius with humidity levels at 80 to 90 per cent for required time period to decay COVID-19 and reduce its half-life substantially, the report said.
The machine, which can be auto-sterilised and gets disinfected after usage, reduces the use of chemicals and reagents for sanitisation. It can also be used to clean the infected clothes with detergent.
The researchers are working on improving the device further by implementing UV radiation, which is considered to effectively eliminate the virus in less than 5 minutes.
