SHILLONG: Toughening their stand, ad-hoc Upper Primary school teachers under the banner of Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA) have threatened to resort to sit-in demonstration with black flags on Teachers Day if their long pending demands are not fulfilled.
Addressing news men here on Wednesday, the MUPSTA State Level General Secretary Kenneth Shadap said the Government must reply to their demands before August 31 failing which they would be compelled to resort to agitation.
The teachers under MUPSTA have been demanding upgradation to the deficit system, alleging that they are getting a salary of Rs 6,000 while the deficit teachers are drawing salaries varying from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000.
The teachers’ body is also demanding implementation of pension and medical schemes for the ad-hoc teachers and hike in salary of Hindi (subject) teachers to bring it on par with the salaries drawn by other assistant teachers. Earlier, on July 20, a delegation of the MUPSTA met the Director, School Education and Literacy, JD Sangma to discuss their demands.
