SHILLONG: Congress legislator HM Shangpliang has asked the state government to reduce the travel time of files so that the projects can be implemented in time. During the question hour in the Assembly on Thursday, Shangpliang raised the issue of delay in implementing ring well projects for the villages in Mawsynram bordering Bangladesh.

Shangpliang said that this is the sixth time that he is raising the issue and there has been no response from the government. The legislator pointed out that the villagers have no water to drink. “I was given assurance by the chief minister and deputy chief minister but it is sad to know that the project is delayed and the file was sent to the concerned departments”, Shangpliang said.

He said the planning department had approved the project in April this year without the nod of finance department. In reply, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the PHE department had approved the project beyond the bank of sanction and hence it was impossible to implement the scheme. The chief minister added that the project took time due to procedural delay. However, he assured that the project at the cost of Rs 1 crore will be taken up.
