SHILLONG: Rajabala MLA Azad Zaman has slammed Tura MP Agatha Sangma for failing to mention about other flood affected areas of Garo Hills in her petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Zaman said that the MP despite being a representative of entire Garo Hills did not seek any assistance for other flood affected of Garo Hills like Rajabala,Selsella and even Bajengdoba but she only mentioned about the flood affected areas of Phulbari Raksamgre and Tikrikilla.
Zaman said this is peak season of harvesting paddy but due to cyclone AMPHAN, the plains of West Garo Hills have witnessed heavy rain, cyclonic storms and hailstorm for the last one week .
He said such torrential rain has triggered flash flood in the area.
“For the last two days, I have been visiting the flood hit areas of my constituency. Apart from damage to some important roads, the flood has severely affected the standing crops”, he said.
The MLA said nearly 3,000 hectares of standing crops ready for harvesting have submerged under water.
