SHILLONG: As uncertainty grows over the date of inauguration of the housing complex at Lumphirain Nongmynsong, the Urban Affairs department wrote to the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja to give a tentative date for the much delayed inauguration.

“We have written to the Union Minister to give us a date for inaugurating the housing complex,” Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said here on Tuesday adding that the State Government would like the Union Minister to inaugurate the project since she had also laid the foundation stone for it.

According to Ampareen, the Union Minister was supposed to inaugurate the project in July. But due to some unavoidable circumstances the date for the same could not be fixed.

“We hope this time we would finally be able to go ahead with the inauguration,” the Urban Affairs Minister said.

The contract to construct this housing project, which was estimated at Rs 30.44 crore, was handed over to Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL).

The much-delayed project, which was initiated way back in September 2008, was taken up by the State Government under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
