No assessment of damage due to cyclone so far: Kyrmen

SHILLONG: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla said that so far no assessment has been made of the damages taken from the cyclonic storm as they “seem quite a lot”.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, he said that there are many places affected across several districts and the assessment is being calculated as per norms. “Some of the concrete bridges are washed away. The water level is also very high. Even the paddy fields are covered with sand and consequently destroyed”, he said. As many as 756 houses are damaged as per details available from May 24 to June 2. Besides, a total 5,27,343 people were affected by cyclone and landslides during this period. According to the details, three persons have drowned and one injured due to the cyclonic storm and landslide.
The amount of compensation paid to the victim’s next of kin is Rs 4 lakh.
