SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla said he does not encourage illegal coal mining while asserting that nobody would dare to undertake the activity in this (pandemic) situation.
However, Shylla was unaware of the illegal coal mining reported from Moolang, Jaintia Hills.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “There should not be any illegal coal mining. Why should we even go for it? Since we are waiting for the coal mining policy, we should be patient and not allow illegal coal mining”.
He added that things will be far better when the mining policy is introduced rather than continue the illegal business.
Sounding emphatic, he said that people are forced to work in mines to eke out a living, but maintained, “The law is there and we should see that illegal mining should not take place”.
