GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal distributed the first installment of grants under Assam Startup Policy 2017 among 31 startups here on Sunday.

The grants ranged from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

“I believe the success of these startups will inspire many youths to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and transform themselves from job seekers to job givers,” Sonowal said during the launch of the Udyam-Youth Entrepreneurship Programme at Assam Startup – The Nest here.

He further urged youths to incorporate innovative ideas into traditional products to increase their value in various markets across the world. “Innovation plays a key role in today’s technology driven society,” he added.

MoUs were exchanged between Assam Startup, government of Assam and TiE-India and Sangam Ventures during the programme.

The chief minister witnessed an exhibition where the incubated startups showcased their products. He reviewed the presentations from various startups and also interacted with the founders of different startups.

A coffee table book, Assam Startup Trailblazers, was also unveiled on the occasion.

Since its inception, Assam Startup has done a tremendous work in empowering youths and startups across Assam.

“I commend their efforts which have resulted in the creation of around 1700 direct and 40,000 indirect jobs,” Sonowal said.
