NONGPOH: In keeping with the trend of detecting entry of outsiders in the state amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has come down hard on the authority in charge of the COVID-19 check point at 13th Mile, Byrnihat, after one of the members of the RBYF detected a person, who was returning from Kerala, entering the state without being screened for COVID-19.
The youth body said that the president of RBYF Western Zone, Active Pator, informed the federation that the person was a resident of Balat, East Khasi Hills, who was on board the same vehicle as Pator, which was headed towards Shillong.
After Pator quizzed the man, it was discerned that he travelled via a train from Kerala and that he was not subjected to screening or checking at the designated check point at 13th Mile, Byrnihat.
“He informed me that he took a local cab from Khanapara till Byrnihat and from Byrnihat to Nongpoh,” Pator said.
Expressing concern over the man not going through mandatory screening, Pator brought him to Shillong Civil Hospital.
After being intimated about the incident, RBYF chief Bipul Thangkhiew lauded the efforts of the president of RBYF Western Zone, while at the same time condemned the officials manning the COVID-19 check point for their negligence.
Taking note of the situation, Thangkhiew stressed that the government should find enforce more strictness and check the entry of individuals into the state, which may put the lives of many in danger.
