NONGPOH: In a bid to ease the problems faced by the people of more than 25 villages of Mawhati Constituency bordering Assam, local MDC Charles Marngar, on Friday, joined hands with the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), Umtrai Circle, and local drivers of the area to repair the dilapidated Umtrai-Pamlatar road.
The road connects parts of Nongpoh and Mawhati constituencies.
The locals in the region have been longing for better road connectivity for decades, however, till date, the government has not taken any step.
During rainy season, only four-wheel vehicles can ply on the road due to mud which makes it extremely slippery.
RBYF Umtrai leader Shembok Marbah, who led the road repairing work, informed that the organisation has been up to doing repairing works consistently in order to ease the problems faced by the local people, especially during medical emergencies.
Marbah lauded the initiative of the local MDC, Charles Marngar.
While thanking the RBYF and the drivers for repairing the road, the MDC urged the state government to pay attention to such backward areas of the state and find out ways to boost the socio-economic condition.
