SHILLONG: The KSU has reiterated its opposition to the Government’s decision to extend the services of the State Sports Council (SSC) Chief Engineer, W Kharmalki for another two years.
“This decision to grant extension to a retired person is detrimental to the promotion prospects of others down the line even as it affects the morale of the serving employees. It also blocks the employment opportunities for thousands of prospective unemployed youths,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem said in a letter submitted to Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Sports and Youth Affairs department Bindo M Lanong here on Monday.
Stating that the move is also self contradictory in nature, Khyriem said that the government on one hand is claiming to find ways and means to provide employment but at the same time its actions prove otherwise.
He also questioned whether the government is serious about providing employment to the deserving candidates or whether its claims are just a political gimmick during elections. “We are also of the view that no one is indispensable and hence the Government should appoint people who are still in service and having the technical know-how so that the general public can be benefited,” the KSU president said.
