Main accused in Dimapur double-murder case held in Assam

Kohima: The Assam police arrested the fourth and reportedly one of the key accused in Dimapur double murder case from Diphu in Karbi Angling district while the fifth accused was still absconding, Dimapur police sources said.

According to official sources here on Tuesday, the arrest came following the apprehension of three criminals by Special branch of Dimapur.

Reportedly belonging to an inter-state gang involved in the abduction and killing of two minor boys, who were abducted from Dimapur on July 28 and subsequently killed on August 3 at a place between Diphu and Lumding in Assam.

The key accused identified as one Muna was arrested following information etracted from the arrested trio.

The three accused were arrested by Special branch on Saturday night from Dimapur Railway Station when they came to collect ransom money.

Sources said Muna would now be brought to Dimapur from Diphu after official formalities were complete.

All of the accused were arrested and the one, who was still absconding, was operating in Nagaland and Assam. Sources also said Dimapur police has now brought back one of the bodies of the minors. The other minor was reportedly buried in Diphu.

The gang members demanded Rs six lakh from the parents of one of the minors and later on it was negotiated to Rs 50,000.

It may be mentioned that three accused under Dimapur police custody were identified as Adbul Munan, Kubir Uddin both from Karimganj, Assam and Bikash Barman from West Bengal.

This led to the arrest of Abdul Munan (26) and Kubiruddin (26), both from Karimganj district of Assam, while two other persons, who were supposed to collect the money, never turned up.

Two minors, Irfan Mansoori (15) and his friend Rohit, were killed by the abductors between Diphu and Lumding. The minors, residents of Zakiesatuo colony went missing on July 28 last.

Meanwhile, Dimapur Muslim Public Forum (DMPF) has strongly condemned the abduction and killing of two minors. (UNI)
