TURA: West Garo Hills police has arrested a man who allegedly raped a 5-year-old in the Purakhasia border belt of the district.
According to police sources, the incident happened almost ten days ago but the traumatised family did not alert authorities. The accused is said to be a relative of the victim.
After some villagers tipped off police, women police staff visited the border village to obtain details and also arrested the accused who has denied the allegation.
A medical examination of the child along with counselling has been taken up to ascertain the facts. The accused, in the meantime, has been booked under the POCSO act and sent to jail.
This incident comes barely two days after a mentally challenged 12-year-old was sexually abused by a village nokma and another relative in the border village of Salmanpara under Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills district.
