GTAC  records huge sale in first virtual auction of tea

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has tasted huge success in its first all-encompassing virtual tea auction in the Sale No.27 on  this year where an ecosystem was created enabling all stakeholders to ‘work from home’ because of the on-going lockdown.

Secretary of GTAC Buyers’ Association, Dinesh Bihani informed that over 170 buyers took part in the virtual auction at Sale No. 27 in which 38,05,705 kgs of tea were sold at n average price of Rs 273.50 per kg which was much better compared to last year’s Sale No.27 in which 30,07,549.9 kgs of were sold at an average price of Rs 158.98 per kg.

Evidently, average Rs 114.52 more was realized per kg of tea on the offer compared to last year’s Sale No. 27.

The success tasted in the virtual auction has paved the way for more such selling in the GTAC during the lockdown period. Moreover, virtual selling will become an order of the day in future too in case of arising out of situations that may disallow physical auctioning of tea  at the GTAC. The Sale No 27 was
