SHILLONG: The residents of Solerartek in West Garo Hills have rubbished the news which appeared in Assam media which reported that the officer in-charge (OC) of Phulbari Police Station harassed Assam residents.
Countering the report, the residents said that it was the Assam Police, deployed in Solerartek, who are harassing and torturing the locals in Meghalaya.
Not being able to bear the atrocities of Assam Police, the residents took up the matter with West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, following which the DC ordered the Phulbari OC to initiate spot inquiry and submit a report.
The residents said that on July 3, the inquiry was conducted by the OC, during which it was discerned that nobody had been harassed.
The residents have also demanded action against the scribe of an Assam-based newspaper for alleging that Meghalaya Police tortured the people of South Salmara in Soleartek.
