PDF presses for demand for scheduling of Khasi language

SHILLONG: A delegation of People’s Democratic Front (PDF) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to press for their demand for inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
MLAs and top functionaries of the party met the CM on Monday. PDF MLA and Cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh said that the party would also write to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the matter.
He said that the party has urged  the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs to take up the issue as well. “We need their voice on this”, he said.
The party members also apprised the CM on the electricity bills that have sky rocketed in the recent months asserting that there is no proper management and that  increases the financial burden on the poor.
Lyngdoh said that monthly electricity bills that were usually  of Rs 200-Rs 300 have soared to Rs 1000-Rs 2000.
In this connection, the Chief Minister has asked the MLAs to bring evidences of the hiked electricity bills and promise to take action accordingly.
MLA Umsning Jason Sawkmie Mawlong said that the CM would call the concerned department for a meeting to discuss the jinxed issue.
