Guwahati: Over two lakh violence-displaced Muslim inmates lodged in various relief camps in Assam’s Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts have the option to attend the Eid namaz either within the campus of their respective relief camps or at the Idgah maidan in the nearest locality as per the advise issued by the administration, according to an official source.

Most of the relief camps are located in education institutions which have a sprawling campus that can well facilitate Eid namaz for inmates. The authorities have revamped security measures in view of Eid on Monday.

Dhubri district has maximum number of 1.45 lakh Muslim inmates in 133 relief camps. The district administration has advised inmates to preferably offer prayers within the camps campus as far as possible.

The administration in Kokrajhar district has left it to relief camps inmates to choose whether they would attend prayer within relief camps or in the nearby Idgah.

Assam government today distributed sewai, sugar, rice and milk powder to inmates of all the relief camps – irrespective of religion and faith – on the occasion of Eid on Monday.
