VDP members assaulted in EJH

SHILLONG: The village leaders and volunteers, who are entrusted with the task to ensure that people adhere to the orders, especially with regard to the ongoing pandemic, often, come across unscrupulous elements that are likely to cause them harm despite being facilitators of the government directives.
In one such case, four VDP members of Jalaphet Bri-Sutnga village in East Jaintia Hills were assaulted by some people, who were causing nuisance in the village, while the volunteers confronted them.
In this regard, the headman of Jalaphet Bri-Sutnga village, Bukstar Syrti, on Wednesday, filed a complaint against the assailants — Dao Bareh, Defender Pakem and Teilang Chyrmang.
The VDP members are Kom Syrti, Wansalanki Syrti, Das Lamurong and Raja Syrti.
Three detained
Meanwhile, three persons were detained in a village in East Khasi Hills reportedly for shouting indecently and violating the curfew order on Thursday.
S Khongsam, Rangbah Shnong of Nongtyngur village in East Khasi Hills, in a complaint, said that the executive committee of the village detained three persons including one vehicle (ML-05U-4731).
Cattle seized
The Rangbah Shnong, in another complaint on Wednesday, informed that a vehicle (ML-05P-4180) with cattle inside it was detected at Nongtyngur, Lyngkhat road.
However, the occupant(s) of the vehicle fled away from the car.
The persons reportedly intended to smuggle the cattle to Bangladesh.
