SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Shillong unit has written to the Health department seeking fair and proper recruitment process with preference to indigenous people of the state.
This comes in the light of an advertisement put up by the Health department through the DHS (MI) inviting applications from candidates to the post of health workers in the department.
In a letter to the department, the union inferred that the government will invite applications only from youths who recently returned to Meghalaya from different states.
“This statement made by the senior officer of the Health department has infused anger and frustration amongst our citizens, who feel that all eligible candidates within the state should be allowed to apply for the vacant posts”, the JSU stated.
While maintaining that Meghalaya has no dearth of qualified candidates, the JSU has urged the department concerned to rectify the system and make the recruitment process fair and systematic. “These qualified candidates are still unemployed and can be utilised for the purpose”, it added.
The JSU asked the Department to retract the previous statement and make provisions such that all qualified candidates of the state in different medical or paramedic courses can apply for the COVID-19 contractual jobs.
