SHILLONG: Frustration of the opposition Congress MLAs seems to be getting louder by the day. First they wrote Sonia Gandhi to remove the PCC President for his failure to deliver, and now they have trained their guns at CLP leader Mukul Sangma.
A section of the Congress MLAs is not impressed with the CLP leader Mukul Sangma over his long absence during the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and his complete silence on urgent matters facing the state.
These MLAs told reporters on conditions of anonymity that there were many issues concerning the people of the State which needed to be discussed in the CLP but CLP leader had been missing in action for quite a long time.
According to them, the CLP leader is expected to be in station during these difficult times to lead from the front, adding that the party is looking in total disarray whether it is the central leadership or the state leadership.
“If the party leaders are running away from their responsibilities then how can we revive the party,” these Congress MLAs stated.
The MLAs said that all the party MLAs should jointly question the State Government for failing to handle the Covid-19 situation.
Expressing their frustration with the state government, one MLA said “We have made several suggestions to the State Government during our joint meeting in dealing with the prevailing situation. But sadly the State Government has not implemented even one of our suggestion.”
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader, Charles Pyngrope said that it was not right to question the CLP leader at the moment.
“He (Dr Mukul) requires to be present in Garo Hills to oversee the flood situation in the region. It is not possible for him to travel from Shillong to Garo Hills and again return back like in the past due to the prevailing situation. Our CLP leader understands the gravity of the situation. He will be calling the CLP as soon as he returns from Garo HIlls,” Pyngrope who is also the party MLA from Nongthymmai constituency told reporters.
