TURA: One person succumbed to his injuries on Saturday after a group of people assaulted him for allegedly raping a minor girl in a village under Chokpot, South Garo Hills.
The accused, Harun Sheikh was assaulted on Friday.
The severely injured man was taken to Silkigre police station on Saturday morning and was rushed to Silkigre health centre where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, Sheikh, who is married to a local woman and residing in the same village, committed the crime on Wednesday.
Investigation is under way into the incident and five people were held for interrogation, informed P Pandey, South Garo Hills superintendent of police.
