NONGSTOIN: The UDP is leaving no stone unturned in making its presence felt at Rambrai where the party on Friday elected Dr. Jova C Marak as the president of the newly constituted Block Committee.

The first general meeting of the Committee was attended by UDP State President Donkupar Roy, Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M.Lanong, UDP District President K. Lyngkhoi, UDP secretary West Khasi Hills F.K.Ryntathiang along with 500 active workers and supporters of the party.

While informing the gathering that UDP has been recognized as a regional party by the Election Commission of India, Donkupar Roy said that he was very happy and motivated with the support shown by people of the area especially in the last few months. “The UDP would secure majority in West Khasi Hills in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Roy added.

The UDP president further said that various political parties in the state like the Congress, HSPDP etc. cannot deliver to the people due to infighting within themselves.

Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion Dr.Jova C.Marak expressed happiness with her association with the UDP which according to her has contributed from time to time in the making of strong democratic alliances. Marak, who had recently resigned from the Congress, would look to cash in on the 9,300 Garo voters in the Rambrai-Jyrngam Assembly constituency The total number of voters in the constituency is 22,300.

It may be mentioned that Dr Marak was expelled from the Congress informally following her absence at a party meeting in Rambrai.

Following this she offered to resign from the race as a Congress ticket aspirant and turned to the UDP which was more than happy to take her into its fold.
