SHILLONG: Five officials of the Meghalaya High Court Registry have been tested COVID-19 positive and are under the advice of medical professionals and the Health department, the Court clarified on Monday.
The clarification from the Registrar General of the High Court comes in the wake of rumours being circulated on the social media about violations of COVID protocols by the court officials.
The Registrar General informed that these officials are asymptomatic and healthy and are undergoing self quarantine at the High Court guest house.
“They are being monitored round the clock. Owing to the nature of their duties, a thorough enquiry was conducted and after such enquiry, it has been ascertained and confirmed that they have not come into contact with any other person inside or outside the High Court,” the Registrar General asserted.
Dismissing rumours on the social media that guests of the High Court have flouted COVID protocol, the Registrar General said that all guests have strictly adhered to the standard protocols as determined by the state government, including getting themselves tested on their arrival in the city and maintaining all quarantine and social distance norms.
“However, the need to sanitise the High Court premises arose since it is a public place and so that the strictest COVID health protocol is adhered to, not only in order to protect the officers and employees of the High Court, but also the members of the public at large,” the statement added.
The statement also warned against spreading rumours and said that offenders will be dealt with in accordance with law, once they are identified.
