SHILLONG: The JHADC is yet to take any action on the demand of the residents of Bakur for the removal of headman and secretary, who recently secured bail in connection with the assault and tonsuring of a woman.
The residents also wanted a new Executive Committee of the Dorbar.
Earlier, a signed petition by the residents, mostly women, was submitted to the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of JHADC on July 10 on the matter related to the affairs of the Dorbar Shnong in Bakur village. Later, the residents also met the JHADC functionaries.
The petition, which was addressed to the CEM, mentioned about the need to suspend the Executive Committee of the Dorbar led by the headman and the secretary. The residents were surprised to know that the petition which was handed over to the CEM was in-turn forwarded by him to the Administrative Officer (AO) of JHADC for necessary action, but the AO and the EM, Elaka did not take any action.
Questions have been raised by the residents as to how the headman and the secretary can continue in office as they are the accused in a crime and the majority of the residents do not have any trust and confidence in them.
Moreover, the headman of the village is also the President of Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong ,War-Jaintia.
The concerns of the residents are that the Dolloi of Elaka Nongtalang and others who are at the helm of affairs, are yet to respond to their demand.
The villagers reiterated the need to suspend the EC and conduct fresh election.
Sources said that there are already two factions-one group which supports the headman and others who are against him.
