Debate contest

The Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) is organising the 9th RR Thomas memorial inter-college debate competition on August 31 at Sankardev College, Shillong. The topic of the debate is “In the opinion of the House, information technology has stimulated creativity of the youth to attain higher levels’. Affiliated colleges of the deficit and adhoc grant-in-aid may contact the MCTA for more information.

Coin mela

The United Bank of India (UBI) will organize a coin distribution mela at its premises on Wednesday at the Shillong branch premises.

Meeting

The general meeting of the Khasi Jaintia Higher Secondary Adhoc Teachers Association will be held on September 1 at St Dominic’s Higher Secondary School Mawkhar at 10.30 am.

Scribes’ body

A general body meeting of the Meghalaya-based journalists held at Shillong Press Club on Monday decided to form ‘All Meghalaya Journalists Union’, a body to cater to the various needs of working journalists. The meeting was convened by senior Journalist Phillip Marwein.

Selection test

The selection test for the private candidates for the SSLC examination 2012 will be held from September 20. Application forms will be issued by the centres concerned and the last date is for submission to centres is September 6.

Felicitation

The Smit Pyllun recently felicitated meritorious students of Smit. The students who were felicitated are Kyrshanborlang Kharbyngar,Pynkhrawbok Thabah, Trilliancy Marbaniang and Risakmen Kharsati.

Elocution

The Angels Playschool conducted an elocution contest on Saturday at Talents Club for the participants aged between 3 to 7 years. The little children mesmerized the crowd with their recitations, actions and confidence. Around 80 children from all the leading schools of Shillong participated in this contest.

Unclaimed body

One unidentified male dead body was found lying on the shed of Goenka Compound, cantonment area on August 22. The body has been kept in the Shillong Civil Hospital Morgue for identification. The person, aged between 35-40 years of age with swarthy complexion and medium built was wearing a yellow coloured T-Shirt and black trouser. Prohibition

The Wahumkhat Preservation Association has informed that the association will implement its rules to prohibit any mass destruction of fish species at Wah Umkhat from Umsong till Wailatem (Langkawet bridge) from September 1.

Silent march

The Federation of All Meghalaya Adhoc Secondary Teachers Association has appealed to all the managing committees of the Adhoc Secondary Schools, parents and various NGOs support the association’s proposed silent protest march to be held on August 31.
