TURA: The State Government has issued a stern warning of disciplinary action against any government officer or staff who fails to turn up for duty during Wednesday’s road blockade called by ANVC (B).

“The Chief Secretary of Meghalaya has clearly said that strong message needs to be sent out that action will be taken against any government staff who remains absent during the strike called by a militant group,” said Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Pravin Bakshi.

To ensure a smooth flow of traffic and get government employees to attend to their duties, special buses will ply on all the routes of Tura to pick up the staff for work during the morning hours itself. Special powers have also been given to magistrates and police to deal with militants and trouble makers, informed the DC.

The government will also be ensuring free flow of essential commodities.

A special meeting was convened by the DC on Tuesday afternoon attended by church leaders, NGOs, government officers and senior citizens.

The DC informed the gathering that the cycle of bandhs needs to end and people must be allowed to go about their daily lives unhindered. He also sought the support of the public in this regard.
