TURA: A conglomeration of organizations from Garo Hills on Wednesday dashed off a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma urging him to either cancel or postpone the NEHU and MBOSE examinations, 2020 and to instead evaluate the results of students based on internal assessment and past performance in previous exams.

Local bodies like the GSU, FKJGP, AYWO and ADE along with the TGCSU and other internal college bodies appealed to the government to put on hold the examinations pointing out that conducting the same during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic would result in further spread of the virus.

The organizations pointed out that the current online classes being conducted have not done justice with many students complaining of incomplete syllabus, poor network, inadequate study materials and other problems. They added that as many students are not tech savvy many of them were bound to face problems if online exams are conducted.

With regard to conduct of offline examinations, the organizations said that the students would face problems with regard to transportation, accommodation, social distancing and seating capacity including many others which could pose risk of infection to the students as well as teachers.

Cautioning that containment areas in the state and Garo Hills are increasing day by day, the organizations cited the examples of IIT and NLU which have awarded degrees to students based on internal assessment and pass performance and urged that the same is done for students of the state.
