NONGSTOIN: Congress MDC from Mairang, Batskhem Ryntathiang, on Saturday joined Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP).
Batskhem was welcomed by party president, West Khasi Hills Unit, Witting Mawsor, at his residence in the presence of all the executive members of the HSPDP district unit.
Expressing happiness over the decision of Ryntathiang to quit from Congress, Mawsor said it was a big boost for the HSPDP. “With his decision, the HSPDP now has 3 seats in KHADC,” he said.
Stating that the party recently was in a dilemma after they lost many seats in the general election and KHADC election, Mawsor said Ryntathiang’s decision to join the party brings hopes and encouragement to the party workers.
Ryntathiang told pressmen here on Sunday that he had resigned from Congress on August 21, adding that HSPDP was the party he wanted to enrol in.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the role of some Congress leaders, which is one of the reasons he quitted the party, Ryntathiang believes that HSPDP will not change its aims and objectives to defend the law of the land of Khasi and Jaintia.
