GNLA rebels kidnap coal exporter's son

Shillong: A son of a coal exporter to Bangladesh was abducted in the State by eight armed men from a rebel outfit, police said Wednesday. No ransom call was received. “Konu Mahanta was abducted by eight armed GNLA (Garo National Liberation Army) rebels around 7.30pm on Tuesday night from Chokpot area,” a police officer said. The GNLA had earlier slapped extortion demands ranging from Rs.5 lakh to Rs.1 crore on petrol pump owners, coal dealers and businessmen in the coal-rich districts of the Garo Hills.(IANS)
