SHILLONG: Member of Rajya Sabha, Rakesh Sinha, has decided to send 3,000 soap bars and 3,600 sanitary napkins to Kongthong village in East Khasi Hills, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech on women health and hygiene.
In a statement, the MP, who had recently adopted Kongthong village and had announced to work towards its development as a model village and a tourist attraction, said that he has decided to send the soap bars and napkins to 97 families.
“Being inspired by this (Modi’s Independence Day speech), I extend my support to the fulfillment of the vision of PM. Kongthong has 97 families where I am sending 3000 soaps and 3600 sanitary napkins,” Sinha said.
He added that he will send 2,000 soap bars and 4,000 sanitary napkins to Bairpura in Begusarai, Bihar, which is also one of the villages he has adopted.
“I am supporting the women of these two villages with soap and sanitary napkins,” Sinha said.
The MP had also expressed his dreams of transforming Kongthong village to a bustling hub of economic activities without having to dilute its pristine homogenous culture and ethos.
