TURA:  A friend in need is a friend indeed. Even COVID-19 was not able to dampen the spirits of these few teenagers in Garo Hills, who came together to render monetary succour to one of their batchmates who has been battling a debilitating disease for the past six months.
Nineteen-year-old, Cheangku Ch Momin, who happens to be an alumnus of St. Mary’s High School in Tura, has been subjected to a bedridden life and has been severely anaemic.
To add to the woes, his father, who is a tailor by profession, has been off work for the last few months owing to the pandemic.
Momin, fully aware of his family’s financial woes, has ever since been adamant to not seek any medical treatment so as to unburden the load off his debt-ridden parents’ shoulders, who struggle to even eke out a living.
Coming to know of Momin’s plight, a handful of his batchmates joined hands to help him get medical attention.
One of his friends, studying in Bihar and grounded in Tura in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, came to know of Momin’s health condition and mobilised other his classmates to get him admitted in Tura Civil Hospital on Monday.
“We pooled whatever little resources we had and admitted him to the hospital. We are trying to get more resources for his treatment and welcome any help that can be provided by anyone willing to do so,” said Momin’s close friend, Bristine T Sangma.
Ever since the appeal was disseminated, several citizens from Garo Hills have come forward to extend a helping hand to the Momin.
Despite the odds, there is no wonder Momin is blessed to have such friends who are going all out to help their friend return to normalcy.
