GUWAHATI: A young electrical engineer of Oil India Limited (OIL) suffered an electric shock during the repair of equipment at the Baghjan blowout well site on Wednesday afternoon and later died at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh.

According to sources, the engineer identified as Arnab Kishore Bordoloi, suddenly fell to the ground and lost consciousness while he was engaged in the repair job.

Sources said he was provided emergency medical treatment by doctors at the blowout well site and was subsequently taken to AMCH in Dibrugarh with life support in a serious condition.

However, doctors at AMCH declared him dead.

The cause of his death however would be ascertained once the post mortem is conducted.

Meanwhile, OIL has engaged a team to carry out inspection at the blowout well site to find out what led to the mishap.

A leak in the well head casing thread of the blowout well on Monday afternoon had brought the gas diversion efforts in the morning to a naught.

Subsequently, operations had to be stopped with the gas blowing out from the well head again and fire raging as well.

OIL sources said that they would resume gas diversion operations once the repair job was done.
