NONGSTOIN: The National People’s Party (NPP) is continuing to gain ground here at the expense of the Congress as senior leader of Congress along with other members from the party on Wednesday joined NPP, giving a boost to the party in Nongstoin.
Senior vice president of Nongstoiñ Block Congress Committee (NBCC), Simpleman Marwein, along with the members of Congress from Mawiong Lumsyntiew Primary Unit was given a grand welcome where he was formally accepted by MLA of Nongstoin,  Macmillan Byrsat who is also the President of NPP, Nongstoin Block.
Earlier this month the NPP roped in president of Congress of Lumpyngngad (Umyiap) Primary Unit and Shanbor Lyngdoh, General Secretary UDP, West Khasi Hills.
Byrsat, while expressing happiness over the decision of the Congress workers joining the NPP, claimed that as an MLA he had achieved “99.9 per cent of the election manifesto” announced before the last election in 2018.
Byrsat said during the last two and half years as an MLA, he had brought about lots of development in the constituency including road connectivity, water supply and others developmental works were in progress.
Former senior vice president of Nongstoin Block Congress Committee, S Marwein said that the ”hard work” of the MLA had changed the development works of Nongstoin.
He also expressed concern over the style of functioning of the Congress party in the block level and internal fight were the main reasons for him to leave the party after three decades of association.
The members of Congress from Mawiong Lumsyntiew Primary Unit who joined with NPP include Carlus Syiem, OL Lyngkhoi, Berlin Hoojon, among others.
