Muslim youths brainstorm over recent violence in Assam

Guwahati: Lack of dialogue and social assimilation between the minority community and other communities, resulting in an atmosphere of misconception, mutual suspicion and hatred, has led to the recent misunderstandings and problems along communal lines in Assam.

Espousing this view at a meeting of Muslim youths of the state held here on Sunday, the participants opined that miscreants and unscrupulous elements were trying to destabilse the social fabric of the state.

The meeting, convened by MY-FACTS (Muslim Youths: Forum Against Communalism, Terrorism and Sedition), was a response to the communalization of the recent violence and mass displacement in BTAD areas and in order to analyse the situation, a release said on Monday.

The participants, professionals from various fields and diverse places, maintained that there was a vacuum in the social and intellectual sphere of Muslim society in Assam, and this vacuum is being misused by some unscrupulous elements and political leaders to gain political mileage.

To sustain the objectives and to achieve a harmonious and peaceful society, the Muslim youths present at the meeting formed an Ad-hoc Committee to start a dialogue with all communities, stack holders.

The Forum will further focus to carry forward a secular movement for peace and development among the educated youths Muslim in every districts of Assam. (UNI)
