Shillong: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has claimed that the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) had violated guidelines while rampantly issuing NOCs to cement companies in Jaintia Hills.

The HANM has claimed that it has obtained documents though an RTI filed recently with the Forest department of the JHADC, which revealed out that the Council had not conducted any field inspection before issuing NOCs to the cement companies.

The organisation has also claimed that NOCs were issued to the companies by the Council without verifying proper documents or records of the land acquired by the companies for setting up their plants.

The organisation has stated that the Council’s actions clearly indicates that it is an ‘agent’ which is responsible for selling off forest land to the cement companies.

The HANM has also issued a warning to the JHADC to refrain from issuing any fresh NOC to any company desirous of setting up cement plants in the district.
