MAWKYRWAT: Peeved with the steep electricity bills, the residents of Pynden Lyngdoh village in Riwar Sepngi, South West Khasi Hills, have expressed their resentment coupled with the inability to pay the bills, which they received after more than one-and-half year recently.
The Myntri of Pynden Lyngdoh village, H Nongsiej, informed that the residents have not received electricity bills since 2019 and now when the bills were issued, most of the villagers were shock to see dues varying from Rs 7,000 to 20,000.
“This sudden escalation of electricity bills has troubled our people. If we don’t pay the bills it is not right, and the majority of the people are poor so paying is difficult. I cannot imagine how it would be for the people to use up all of their money just to pay the electricity bills,” Nongsiej said.
The Myntri thus urged the concerned authorities to find a solution to this problem, which is not a fault of theirs.
