Mawkyrwat: Two major markets under Ranikor Civil Sub Division in South West Khasi District will be closed for one day on October 5 and 7 due to COVID-19, district magistrate HS Diengdoh informed on Sunday.
The order came in after one person who is a shopkeeper and has shops in both Balat and Photkroh markets was tested positive recently.
‘Public health and safety is a matter of concern and therefore it is imperative to control and regulate the commercial areas’, Diengdoh said.
Therefore in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 and to allow the health department to conduct contact tracing in both the markets, unregulated opening of Balat market on October 5 and Photkroh market on October 7 is prohibited, he added.
Meanwhile the deputy commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Cara Kharkongor has declared the house of Roilin Sangriang in Mawsaw Domsohpian village and the house of Loristhan Pariong of Thangrai village in Nongnah, as containment areas after detection of new positive cases.
