MAWKYRWAT: As many as 29 people have become homeless after a group of around 15-20 wild elephants rampaged through two villages under Ranikor Civil Sub-Division in South West Khasi Hills.
Sources informed that the incident took place on Sunday morning, when a group of wild elephants entered Rajai and Lapahar villages in Ranikor and destroyed many houses besides vegetables and plants.
Official sources informed that it is not clear as to how many elephants came to the two villages.
They also informed that till the filing of this report exact report regarding the number of houses that were destroyed in the villages was no available.
However, there was no casualty and nobody was injured.
The 29 people have been placed in relief camps set up in both Rajai and Lapahar villages, according to the sources.
