SHILLONG: Taking strong cognizance of the threat posed by influx the KHADC on Tuesday decided to reduce the period for renewing of the labour license from the existing one year to 179 days which is one day short of six months.
The decision assumes significance as any person residing in the state for six months would become its permanent citizen.
“We have intentionally reduced the period of renewing the labour license to 179 days in order to prevent the migrant workers from using it as an authentic document to enroll themselves in the electoral rolls”, KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N Syiem said after the EC meeting here.
The EC would also direct the all local Dorbar Shnong within its jurisdiction to register the residents in their respective villages and localities.
“The Dorbar Shnong should have the complete details of the people residing in the various localities and villages. It should have information like the names of the house owners, tenants and also that of the migrant workers within its jurisdiction,” Syiem said adding that the Council can at any point of time ask the Dorbar Shnong to submit the data for verification in case of complains regarding presence of doubtful people in their localities.
The KHADC CEM said that the Council can also take action against the concerned Dorbar Shnong in case of anomalies in the data prepared.
The Council has also decided to disallow the Rangbah Shnong and his Executive Committee (EC) from issuing any kind of NOCs or certificates to a doubtful person without the consent of the whole Dorbar Shnong.
“The Council would also write to the various Dorbar Raid and Dorbar Hima requesting them to ensure that the localities and villages under their jurisdiction do not issue any certificate or document to dubious people without the consent of the Dorbar Shnong,” Syiem added.
