SHILLONG: The KHADC Executive Member in charge of Town Committees, Paul Lyngdoh, has tabled a report of the Executive Committee on de-notification and redefining of boundaries of Town Committees to be placed before the House.
Placing the report during the Winter Session of the Council on Tuesday, he said the office has received numerous petitions from villages falling under the Town Committees and local representatives requesting it to either de-notify or redefine their boundaries.
Lyngdoh informed that as per a notification of the office of the Registrar General of India as on September 4, 2018, all town committees that have been established will fall under the urban unit as per the notification.
He added that there is a major fear that the locals will be deprived of rural schemes, when at the same time urban schemes are not suitable for the areas.
Lyngdoh informed that the Nongpoh Town Committee has excluded eight villages from the jurisdiction of Town Committee, while Nongstoin has excluded 22 villages.
Further, town committees in Mawkyrwat, Sohiong, Umsning, Mawlai and Mairang have been de-notified, Lyngdoh added.
