SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the youth will be the focus of the government while formulating policies and programmes.
Speaking during a foundation-laying ceremony for a new building of Sohra Government College, Conrad also said the investment in youths through various activities is a key pillar to shape the future of the state and the country as a whole.
The programme was also attended by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Shella MLA Balajied Synrem and Sohra MLA Gavin M Mylliem.
Lauding the efforts of all who played a part in bringing the project, Conrad said the new building is a step towards rendering better education to the youths.
“As government, we have laid focus to channelise the energy of the youths so that they become productive. We are curating programmes so that we are able to guide and mould the mindsets of our youths,” said the chief minister.
“As a government, we should look at ensuring that the youths are shaped in the right manner so that they become productive, responsible, patriotic, hardworking and committed citizens,” he added.
Dwelling on the government’s endeavour to revamp the education scenario in state, Conrad said, “Everything cannot change in an instant but we need to start somewhere. I strongly feel that the government should look at ensuring the right education for the youth”.
“We are not saying that everything will change. But I think we need to start somewhere,” he added.
Conrad also informed that close to Rs 3000 crore is required to only improve the elementary school infrastructure in the state.
It may be mentioned that the Sohra Government College, formerly known as Sohra College, was provincialised in 2009. The new building is being upgraded with an investment of 12 crore.
