DIMAPUR: Reacting sternly on the statement of Union Home minister Shushil Kumar Shinde’s comment that the Constitution of India provides no ‘interim government’, the NSCN-IM said on Monday that the news has come as a major surprise to the outfit.

On September 11, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had asserted that as per the Constitution, there would be no such ‘Interim Government’ as in the case with Nagaland.

Issuing a press communique to NNN, the Isak-Muivsah group of the NSCN said, “We are issuing this press release in view of the statement issued by the Home minister , Shri. Shushil Kumar Shinde that the Indian Constitution provided no interim government. The statement of Indian Home minister, Shushil Kumar Shinde that the Constitution of India has no provision of ‘interim government’ which was carried in many local and Indian national papers on September 11 has come as a major surprise to us. We cannot perceive how this term has emerged and on what basis and reason he has uttered this idea to the media.”

The outfit said the Home minister may have the right to give that statement. However, it was not politically correct for him to have said it when the Naga people are anxiously expecting a negotiated political settlement acceptable to both. Therefore, his statement has hurt the sentiments of the Nagas, they added.

It then added that the Home minister should also understand that the second clause of the cease fire agreement between the NSCN and government of India without condition. The two other clause states that the political dialogue will be at the highest level and outside India in a third country.

“We consider this development as very unfortunate and premature when the political dialogue between the NSCN and the Government of India as two entities is said to have reached a crucial stage and we definitely hope the Government of India will not backtrack on its commitment that it will seek solution outside the box and by walking the extra mile,” expressed.
