SP’s office now a police station

SHILLONG [Nov 10]: The state government has declared the office of the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police or Crime Branch Police Station (CBPS), East Khasi Hills, as police station and will now include within its jurisdiction the area throughout the eastern range of the state for the purpose of offences to be dealt by CBPS.
These include offences under the Indian Penal Code whereby punishment for each offence is seven years or above.
However, offences relating to crime against women and children, offences under the Economic Offence Wing (EOW), notification and offences investigated by Cyber Crime Wing Police Station will not be investigated by officers of the CBPS. Further, the CBPS will also deal with offences under the National Security Act, 1980, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, Arms Act, 1959, Explosives Substances Act, 1908, Information Technology Act, 2000, and any other particular offence or class of offences that may be specified by the state government.
