SHILLONG, Nov 24: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on Tuesday, expressed confidence that the state would not reach a situation where it would not have funds to pay salaries to its staff.
Reacting to a query about apprehensions that the state might not be in a position to pay the salaries of its employees by the end of the financial year, Tynsong said that the “state was yet to reach that situation.” “We are confident that we will get more grants from the Centre which we are supposed to get,” he said.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking support for releasing the share of central taxes and relaxation of strict timelines for implementation of reforms.
Tynsong said the Union finance minister was very responsive and hence the Meghalaya government was optimistic that she would consider the government’s request, “which is genuine.” “The allotment of grant is based on the report of the Finance Commission which is favourable to the state,” Tynsong said.
