MAWKYRWAT, Nov 28: The Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS) along with the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement, Federation of Khasi-Jaintia & Garo People and the officials from the PWD (Roads) have expressed discontentment over the sluggish pace in the construction of a PMGSY road from Mawphankhrew to Nongmawlein in Mawranglang village, South West Khasi Hills.
The NGOs, after inspecting the construction of the PMGSY road on Thursday, concluded that the implementation of the central scheme was ‘too slow and unsatisfactory’.
“The inspection team found that the contractor had taken the work very lightly and since 2018 till date, he has not been able to even construct the retaining wall and the culvert throughout the road,” alleged chairman of the SSSS, Wallambok Syiemiong.
He added that Assistant Engineer, Mawkyrwat Division, G Shangdiar, had claimed that the road construction would be finished by March 2020.
Syiemiong also accused the PWD (Roads) of failing to keep a tab on the works, thereby resulting in the slow construction. “It seems that no one monitors the work and because of this, the contractor gets a chance to do whatever he likes,” he said.
Syiemiong also pinned the blame on the contractor, saying that the latter’s incompetence has affected the locals in the area.
“Therefore, we urge from the PWD (Roads) to instruct the contractor to finish the work as soon as possible for the benefit of the locals,” Syiemiong said, warning strict action against the contractor as per the law of the land.
Meanwhile, HANM president, Mawkyrwat Circle, Lambokstar Marwein, has urged the contractor to rebuild the retaining wall which has been damaged.
