SHILLONG: A team of Assam Police arrived here on Sunday in connection with the July 2 arson case at Umthna in Ri-Bhoi district.

The Assam police on Thursday last arrested Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement’s (HANM) Patharkhmah Circle president Kodios Thongni from his residence for his alleged involvement in torching an Assam Police outpost on the Assam-Meghalaya boundary.

Meanwhile, the HANM president Lamphrang Kharbani said this arrest of the organisation leader was uncalled for since the Assam Government had illegally constructed the police outpost.

Admitting that the organization members had set the police outpost on fire, he said majority of the local people believe this police outpost at Umthna was set up in Meghalaya.
